Nubra Valley, Ladakh: plan a photo visit

Broad riverbeds, sand and snow-tipped peaks give Nubra a sense of space. Build the valley into a longer Ladakh trip rather than rushing there immediately after arrival at altitude.

Suggested time: two or more valley days after acclimatisation. Open destination map

Key sights and photo ideas
  • Diskit — Use the monastery area for architecture and broad valley views, subject to access.
  • Hunder — Look for dune patterns and mountain layers from permitted visitor areas.
A suggested itinerary
  1. Before the valley trip: allow acclimatisation and confirm permits and road conditions.
  2. Day 1 in Nubra: travel to your base with a few safe stops. Day 2: explore Diskit and Hunder before a flexible return plan.
Travel and photography tips
  • Follow current Ladakh visitor and acclimatisation guidance.
  • Do not feed animals or drive onto dunes for photographs.
  • Keep road transfers flexible when weather affects the passes.
