Shimla and Kufri, Himachal Pradesh: plan a photo visit

Historic facades, forested slopes and changing mountain weather offer several different photo walks. Keep central Shimla and a Kufri excursion on separate days.

Suggested time: two days. Open destination map

Key sights and photo ideas
  • The Ridge and Christ Church — Explore the central architecture and return for evening light.
  • Mall Road — Look for timbered facades, street details and hillside views.
  • Kufri — Plan a separate excursion when road and weather conditions allow.
A suggested itinerary
  1. Day 1: walk central Shimla, break for lunch and revisit the Ridge around dusk.
  2. Day 2: travel to Kufri with time for a short local walk and the return journey. In poor weather, stay in central Shimla.
Travel and photography tips
  • Ask your accommodation where vehicle access ends and walking begins.
  • The archive contains snow; check the forecast rather than expecting it on every visit.
  • Carry a light layer and avoid icy or unlit hillside shortcuts.
